Vintage Brass Wool Winder: Mahogany Base, Goodbrand & Co.

A large vintage brass wool/yarn tester by makers Goodbrand & Co. of the Brittania Foundry, Stalybridge, with winder, dial and bell, raised on a mahogany base with drawer. A unique, stunning and very decorative piece.

Base measures 71cm long x 42cm deep and the item in total including the winding mechanism measures 59cm high x 84cm long x 42cm deep.

Good condition for age with some signs of use. One of the four blue glass thread holders is shorter than the others and has lost a few millimetres off its tip.

The winding mechanism works smoothly and perfectly and the gauge is clear and intact.

It still has the original documents along some correspondence dating to 1954 in the drawer.
